A catamaran is a watercraft with two parallel hulls of equal size, offering superior stability, speed, and comfort. The wide distance between the hulls reduces rolling and overturning, which means no ballast is required. Catamarans typically have a smaller draft, less hull volume, and lower hydrodynamic resistance compared to monohulls of the same length, making them efficient and fast.
These boats can range in size, from small sailing vessels to large naval ships and roll-on/roll-off car ferries. Many luxury catamarans feature multiple cabins, each with en-suite bathrooms, spacious saloon areas for seating and dining, and well-equipped galley kitchens. The structure connecting the two hulls can be simple or complex, depending on the design, often providing cabin or cargo space. With less wave-induced motion and reduced wakes, catamarans offer a more stable and pleasant ride than monohulls.
