Bawe Island, or Kisiwa cha Bawe in Swahili, is a peaceful getaway situated in the Zanzibar Channel, just 10 km offshore from Stone Town. Historically significant, the island was once home to an operational station for the Eastern Telegraph Company in the late 19th century, connecting Zanzibar to Seychelles and Aden.
